Little Lamb Baby Shower

A Little Lamb baby shower is a darling theme that can evoke a sense of charm and nostalgia for most anyone. If you can appreciate vintage finds and love modern entertaining, perhaps you will consider this for your next baby shower. This theme is ideal for an intimate brunch with friends and the Mommy to be. Following these few easy guidelines will guarantee you to stand out, as the hippest of hostesses.

  • Start with a great invitation. I love this one from Minted. Although the style appears traditional, the soft palette lends itself to feel very modern and best of all it defines a color palette for the event.
  • Follow the same color story in your tablescape. First an an elegant baby blue table cloth. Then use several baby blue vases in varying sizes and shapes, adding flowers in soft ivory hughes but remaining mindful of the size of flowers in accordance to the size of the vase. Large head flowers in larger vases, smaller flowers in bud vases but most importantly, use only one type of flower per vase. The rest of the table elements should remain monochromatic so use ivory china and napkins. Keeping the table simple and elegant will help in highlighting your vintage finds and guard your theme form looking too “kitschy”.
  • Now, for the vintage flair. Pick up a few cute little lamb planters from a flea market or antique store. They are often found in pastel colors and can be easily introduced into your tablescape and/or peppered around the party. Fill them with flowers and place them near a welcome sign, or perhaps grazing near the cupcakes or refreshments. They will definitely get noticed!
  • A personal touch- Add vintage charm with these place cards. Learn the how to here.
  • Really commit- To the sweet color scheme that is. Finish off with these darling cupcakes from Country Living.
  • Must not forget-The bubbly. This is after all, a celebration. There is something about pink Champagne garnished with cherries that scream a fabulous grown up little shindig, but maybe that is just me. Just be sure to have a non alcoholic and “Mommy to be” friendly option….a shirly temple would be most fitting!

Stick to the plan and you’ll make a fabulous Host!

Mother’s Day: Manicures & Mimosas

mother's day party manicures and mimosas

Ladies, if you are still looking for ideas for a Mother’s Day celebration – this is a darling idea!  Beth from Spark PR & Events sent me this darling Manicures & Mimosas party, and there are some darling ideas you could pull out for just about any celebration!

Moms and daughters enjoyed mimosas while they got manis and pedis.  It was held at Tipsy’s a salon that has a wine bar. The focal point was a tree centerpiece with pictures of the girls with their moms when they were younger.  OPI nail polish favors with “Manicures and Mimosas” hang tags served as party favors. There were mini cupcakes, mini muffins and frittata for the ladies to enjoy during their services.  The cupcake towers were from Home Goods and embellished with ribbon.  Each guest that attended will get a thank you note on custom stationery that matches the invite with a photo of each mother and daughter…what a great memento from a wonderful party!

Real Party: Pinwheels & Pearls

This party makes me happy!  When I saw it sitting in my inbox, I truly got giddy trying to get the post up quickly!  It’s just a darling, unique party full of charming details that are sure to make you swoon the way I did!

Sent to me by Victoria Hudgins of The City Cradle, this “pinwheels & pearls” party was inspired by a Kat Spade ad (a girl after my own heart!) that came out this spring.  They lined over 50 pinwheels along their back fence, hung pearls in the tree and a thrift-store chandelier was painted white & pink for the occasion.  A desert bar with starburst pinwheel pops, pinwheel cupcakes and a doughnut tree in the center stole the show, and they set up a table at the perfect kid-height for coloring in pinwheels during the party. Boys were decked out in handmade pinwheel bow-ties, and the girls were adorned in pinwheel necklaces!

Mother’s Day Dinner Party

mother's day dinner partyWith Mother’s Day quickly approaching, I realized that I had to get myself into party-planning mode!  Today I am showing you a peek into my own party-planning for a family dinner celebrating Mother’s Day.  Since we will be hosting this dinner party at our home (hopefully in our newly-remodeled sun room….if we can get it done in time!), I am mainly focusing on the table setting and menu!  I decided it would be fun to use a bright, cheerful color palette of Kelly green, navy blue and hot pink.  Very spring-like and preppy, but updating the look with some modern patterns.

The honeycomb invitation from my very own WH Hostess stationery line is perfect for this dinner party!  And it also helps that it coordinates with my monogrammed melamine plates – which I have been {very impatiently} waiting to debut this season!  I plan to set the table with crisp white linens, and tie the napkins in a preppy stripe ribbon.  For the centerpieces, I plan to use monochromatic pink flowers – a vase of tulips, a vase of gerber daisies, etc. – and white, clean-lined vases.  I may even wrap the vases with the stripe ribbon, just to tie that look together.

I am still working on my menu – and I can’t give everything away since my mother does occasionally read this!  But, I do think it would be so fun to create a candy bar for dessert!  Can’t you picture it done in green, white and pink candy?!  Utterly charming and totally preppy!

How will you be celebrating Mother’s Day this year?!

An Elegant Celebration

elegant celebration dinner partyWe focus so much on theme parties here on The Party Dress….but some occasions just call for pure elegance!  Whether you are planning a wedding, an engagement party, a 60th birthday celebration or an elegant company event – there are always 4 main ideas that are key to making your event one to remember.

  1. A stunning invitation: Bold.  Simple.  Elegant.  Cute.  Whatever your style, make sure that your invitation sets the tone for your party!  I love this navy blue floral invitation from Wedding Paper Divas!  It’s formal enough for a wedding, yet would be festive for a shower or birthday party.
  2. Centerpieces: Using a unique vessel, create a floral centerpiece that pulls together the colors of your palette.  I love the use of the stone urn in this inspiration – it creates a stunning “elegant garden” image for me.
  3. Cocktails: Choose either a signature cocktail, or a fabulous drink display….you don’t need both!
  4. Dessert Table: The trend of the moment and a spectacular surprise for your guests.  The dessert table should be color-coordinated to your specific palette and can serve as a focal point for your event.

Real Party: Tiki Lounge 40th Birthday

tiki lounge luau birthday party

Beth from Spark PR & Events in Palm Beach, Florida recently sent me this event….it’s a Tiki Lounge 40th birthday party!  So fun, great colors….and it’s totally putting me in the mood for SUMMER!  Anyone planning a luau this summer?!  Here are some great ideas from Beth….

This is a 40th Birthday Surprise Party I recently did for a husband and wife who love margaritas and the Bahamas. We did a tiki lounge invite and incorporated their love for margaritas and the islands with a “Patti and Paul’s Tiki Lounge” theme. There was a tiki bar with a margarita machine and passed drinks in custom cups and napkins as guests arrived, centerpieces out of pineapples, flip flops with custom hang tags for guests, and hawaiian dancers and a fire eater entertained the guests after the arrival of the “surprised” hosts.  We used flip flops as the party favor, dressed-up with a custom gift tag!  The evening had a wonderful, tropical feel!
