I am just drooling over this amazing Egypt-inspired photo shoot done for Rue Magazine. I’m in love with the rich colors, and the mix of metals. An amazing line-up of talent pulled this together: Jose Villa took the a-mazing photos, Cortnie of Canvas & Canopy styled the shoot, one of my favorite floral designers, La Partie Events did the arrangements, and the ladies at Be Inspired PR helped coordinate.
And who can resist a camel?!

It has been SO HOT here lately! In the upper 90′s every single day, and I am doing everything I can to avoid cooking! My husband is getting pretty annoyed with the “lets go out tonight” comment he receives when he walks in the door after work – so I decided it was time to find some delicious, no-cook recipes that might help carry my dinner meal plan thru the end of the summer. Williams Sonoma has a fabulous selection of them! Top on my list: caprese salad, sonoma succotash salad, avocado, tomato and bacon tartines, and heirloom tomato gazpacho.

We recently had the pleasure of working with one of our repeat customers in Australia to design the custom party goods for her twin son’s birthday party. The boys wanted an airplane party with lots of sweets…..and their mom certainly outdid herself!
The pale blue and orange color palette was accented with a jet silhouette and some seersucker stripes (one of my favorite patterns!) Don’t you love all of these desserts?! The cakes and cloud cookies are my favorites!
The kids had a great time filling up their goodie bags to bring home! This darling airplane collection will be added to the shop soon!

Bon Appetit has a fabulous feature on their website right now for setting up a do-it-yourself drink bar for your next party. Based around a mojito concept, they give you ideas for condiments to use for muddled drinks. Let guests do their own mixing and muddling from a setup that includes fruit, syrups, and spirits.

I always get SUPER excited when I start working on a new project! Especially when I get to work with a good friend and some other fabulous vendors. This next project….oh, yea…..I’m excited!! Our contributor, Charynn of Two Sugar Babies, is here today to share the inspiration board for her daughter’s upcoming birthday party. You may remember Madelyn’s colorful-Chinese lantern-Kai Lan character birthday party from last year. This year, she’s going pink, black and white….and you are just going to LOVE the theme!! Stay tuned for more posts to come as the planning gets underway…..
We are in the early stages of planning – so if you have any ideas or are a vendor that has a PERFECT product we should consider, please leave a comment!

I’m looking for an excuse to gather up my girlfriends for a “ladies night” and I’m thinking a preppy game night might just be the ticket. Pink and green, some stripes and polka dots, and a few yummy treats like popcorn cups and cupcakes….voila! A fun night that everyone would love.

Since it IS birthday week here on The Party Dress, I thought we would share the details of some of the birthday parties featured in the latest issue of The Party Dress Magazine. This pink and green, Lilly Pulitzer-inspired is one of my favorite parties that I have worked on recently. It is the quintessential preppy, summer party….perfect for the little girl in your life! I also think this theme would make a darling bridal shower! A sweet poppy flower pattern, mixed with green seersucker stripes make this collection one of my all time favorites!
Guests were welcomed by a festive wreath made by different patterned ribbon loops (a fun, DIY project thatcan be re-purposed as a room decoration after herparty!) and brought into a sunny room where the party would be held. The focal point of the room was the very sweet dessert table. The space was defined by a unique tablesetting. A pink swiss dot fabric was laid atop a crisp white table-cloth, and pulled up at each end of the table with green polka dot ribbon. A pennant banner featuring all of our coordinating patterns hung between the two pull-back bows. The vertical space above the table was defined by a ribbon and polka dot chandelier.
Sweets included a raspberry birthday cake topped with a fondant poppy made by Two Sugar Babies, cupcakes with our custom toppers were served on minicake stands embellished with pink, pom pom trim, flower hand-iced cookies by Allyson Jane, perfectly preppy cake pops by Flour and Iced, and color-coordinated candy (including my personal fav – ribbon candy!). A lollipop tree held pink and white swirl lollipops (a simple DIY project – simply wrap a styrofoamcone with ribbon!), and we used small glass cylinders full of candy to house our darling centerpiece sticks featuring the birthday girl’s name. We branded the table with coordinating candy jar tags, food tent cards, and tray liners. The overall look was delightful and made for some very happy little girls!
The birthday girl ate her cake off her personalized melamine plate, and we dressed up simple items like paper cups and straws with coordinating stickers. The color palette was carried throughout the party, and included low tables set with the pink swiss dot tablecloths, and floor pillows made from our custom lilly flower fabric for the girls to sit on.
Activities are key when entertaining children during a party. Caroline LOVES to color, so we created a custom coloring page for the kids to color during the party. Wrapped up and tied with a bow, they looked extra special served up in a bow-embellished tray alongside crayon kits.
We wanted to come up with a unique and special party favor. Along with a box of candy from the dessert table, each young lady chose a hairbow to bring home. Made by Mel-Belles to coordinate with our party, the bows were displayed on custom tags and hung on a board.

I’ve always been a fan of party hats, but I don’t think I really, truly fell in love with them until recently when we used them for Francesca’s Bake Shoppe party. Those big, pink flowers….they just made me swoon! Ever since, I’m on a hunt to find unique ones for every party I am working on. I’m sharing a few of them that I have found on etsy with you today…..hope you love them as much as I do!

Since we are celebrating MY birthday today, I asked our contributor, Charynn of Two Sugar Babies, to put together an inspiration board as if she was planning a party for ME! Fun, right?! Boy, does she know me well! Take a look at what she came up with……
Although Kelly is in Chicago, and I’m in Pittsburgh, we’ve been able to form a great friendship through our love for parties, design, handbags, and steak frites, not to mention the projects we get ourselves into. She is truly an inspiration to my daily work, and if I were closer, I would throw her a *darling* birthday party full of the colors kelly green, black, white, sweets (gluten free, of course) and simple, modern, design. Happy Birthday, Kelly! Here’s to many more years of great stationery, parties, and shopping (i mean, work) trips!
