Breakfast Soiree

I just put this custom inspiration board together for a client who is hosting a breakfast soiree at The Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica, CA.  This is one of those parties where, after I put everything together, I SO WANT TO GO!  I’m loving the color palette and hope you will too….it would be lovely for a bridal shower, wedding or birthday party, too….don’t you think?!

Modern Garden Party Dessert Table

modern garden party invitation by wh hostess

I’m so excited to share the newest party from WH Hostess with you today!  A modern garden party dessert table was created in celebration of Maggie’s 30th birthday.  The invitation set the color palette for the party – bright orange, hot pink, yellow and grass green looked looked charming paired together.

The main focus of the event was the dessert table!  It had to appeal to both adults and children (all under the age of 6!), so we crafted sweet treats that included everything from sugar cookies to brownie pops.  The table was decorated with a white pot of flowers that was embellished with pennant flags stating “Maggie’s 30th Birthday”, a flower banner draped along the edges of the table and apothecary jars of candy.  Candy Warehouse was my incredible source for our salt water taffy, lemon candy sticks and green apple sours.  We also had white take out boxes embellished with striped stickers that said “Maggie’s Sweet Shoppe”.

One of my favorite tips for creating a cohesive dessert table is to use all of the same serving dishes.  For this particular table, we used all white platters lined with our custom stripe.  We carried our modern flower design into all of the food tent cards and candy jar labels, as well.  The overall affect definitely got the “oohs” and “ahh’s” I was looking for!

Here are some details of the sweet treats:

Our modern garden party dessert table included pink and orange salt water taffy, green apple sours, lemon candy sticks, rice crispy treat pops, brownie pops, meringue sandwiches, initial sugar cookies, chocolate covered pretzels, sugar cookies with fondant toppers from Two Sugar Babies, flower cupcakes, and daisy sugar cookies packaged in cello bags with custom stripe toppers.

I’m not going to lie to you….it was tough to choose!  What’s your favorite?!

Delicious Dishes for a Memorial Day BBQ

delicious dishes for a memorial day bbqWhen it comes to Memorial Day, I like to keep it simple.  A family BBQ is normally in the plans, and if we are lucky (with our wishy-washy Chicago weather) we’ll get to eat outside!  I love this table setting from Pottery Barn….the white paper lanterns dress it up in an easy, DIY-way, and also add that vertical element that I am oh, so passionate about lately!

If you are looking for a couple new recipes for your Memorial Day BBQ, take a look at  these…..

Margarita Grilled Corn on the Cob and Grilled Tomato Melts from Better Homes and Gardens.  They look pretty fabulous, don’t you think?!

Cinco de Maia: Fiesta Themed 1st Birthday Party

I have been SO excited to share this party with you!  I know I dangled a carrot in front of you on Friday with a peek at the inspiration board…..but trust me, it was well worth the wait!

So, where to begin?!  Let’s start at the beginning….Maia’s mommy contacted WH Hostess to do a custom inspiration board for her daughter’s 1st birthday party.  She wanted a fiesta-themed party – since it was Maia’s first birthday (and it fell the beginning of May), how could we resist not doing a “Cinco de Maia” theme?!  You all saw the inspiration board here, and here is what we came up with:

The missoni-like, zig zag pattern from the invitation set the color palette for the party.  Hot pink, orange and yellow made a festive combination that we used for the entire event!  Some of my favorite elements to the party included the fabulous ribbon chandelier hanging over the table, a custom banner (featuring the zig zag pattern), and the amazing patterned paper lanterns from Jonathan Adler (aren’t they just perfect for this theme!?).  Cupcake toppers took on a modern look with an updated square shape, and jars of candy made for a very colorful table!

Maia’s mom did a fabulous job carrying the color palette throughout – notice the coordinating izze drinks, the balloons and the beautiful flowers!  She displayed the party favors beautifully – mini bubbles (wrapped with custom labels) and hot pink maracas (embellished with a zig zig gift tag) were placed on a 3-tier serving piece on the table.  A great idea that you could adapt for any party!

This was such a fun party to work on – and you know what I love about it?!  It’s simple.  It’s all about one fabulous pattern, three beautiful colors and a couple key decorations that pulled it all together!  Great job, Kristen!  And a happy, happy 1st birthday, Maia!

The ideas from this party could easily be translated into any type of summer party – a birthday celebration, a bridal shower, or a fiesta-themed dinner party!  To see more parties planned by WH Hostess, click here.  And for more details about the party goods created for this party, here you go:

Sneak Peek: Cinco de Maia

I’m leaving you today with a sneak peek of our latest party from WH Hostess.  This is the custom inspiration board I created for a sweet 1 year old named Maia.  Her mom came to me to create a concept and party goods for her fiesta themed party….and here is where it all started!  Head on back on Monday to see how the party turned out!  (PS – it’s amazing and you won’t want to miss it!)

Hanging Flowers

I fell in love with this image from The Knot – it’s the perfect solution to the “I want large floral centerpieces, but don’t want to block my guests view”  problem!  Not to mention it looks so new and fresh!  I think you could take this concept and scale it down a little bit for an outdoor party this summer, too.  If you have a covered patio or want to pitch a party tent in your backyard, you could totally re-create this look.  A few hanging plants (make sure to get the “pretty” pots), a few hanging candles – it’s sure to leave your guests saying “wow!”

Real Party: A Baby Shower for Zoe

This beautiful baby shower was sent to me by photographer, Wendy Updegraff.  Thrown for her sister, no detail was left undone!

The color palette for the party was inspired by the Tiny Prints invitation.  A tent covered the beautiful table setting, and was decorated with paper lanters and a special “baby Mama” banner.  They made sugar scrub jars for the party favors and it doubled as the placecard.  My favorite decorative element is definitely the huge Z they covered in artificial flowers…the baby-to-be’s name is  Zoe.  Baby Zoe’s room is to be decorated with bla-bla dolls so they made tags on the back of all of the chairs with cut outs of different bla-bla dolls.   And here is a darling activity: while the guest of honor, opened gifts, they had baskets of ribbons, glue and buttons for the guests to make baby Zoe hair clips!  Too cute, right?!

Preppy Spring Table

Last week I shared my inspiration board for my family’s Mother’s Day dinner (see the post here – it would be perfect for any summer party!)  I’ve had so many people asking to see how it turned out, I thought I would show you a couple of pictures!

The main focus on the table were my monogrammed preppy plates – like I told you last week, I have been DYING to whip these little beauties out – Mother’s Day was the perfect occasion!  These melamine plates are darling and add such a {pop!} to any table.  The come in tons of patterns, and even have matching lucite trays and coasters!  Definitely check them out – and remember them for gifts!

Mother’s Day: Manicures & Mimosas

mother's day party manicures and mimosas

Ladies, if you are still looking for ideas for a Mother’s Day celebration – this is a darling idea!  Beth from Spark PR & Events sent me this darling Manicures & Mimosas party, and there are some darling ideas you could pull out for just about any celebration!

Moms and daughters enjoyed mimosas while they got manis and pedis.  It was held at Tipsy’s a salon that has a wine bar. The focal point was a tree centerpiece with pictures of the girls with their moms when they were younger.  OPI nail polish favors with “Manicures and Mimosas” hang tags served as party favors. There were mini cupcakes, mini muffins and frittata for the ladies to enjoy during their services.  The cupcake towers were from Home Goods and embellished with ribbon.  Each guest that attended will get a thank you note on custom stationery that matches the invite with a photo of each mother and daughter…what a great memento from a wonderful party!

Mother’s Day Dinner Party

mother's day dinner partyWith Mother’s Day quickly approaching, I realized that I had to get myself into party-planning mode!  Today I am showing you a peek into my own party-planning for a family dinner celebrating Mother’s Day.  Since we will be hosting this dinner party at our home (hopefully in our newly-remodeled sun room….if we can get it done in time!), I am mainly focusing on the table setting and menu!  I decided it would be fun to use a bright, cheerful color palette of Kelly green, navy blue and hot pink.  Very spring-like and preppy, but updating the look with some modern patterns.

The honeycomb invitation from my very own WH Hostess stationery line is perfect for this dinner party!  And it also helps that it coordinates with my monogrammed melamine plates – which I have been {very impatiently} waiting to debut this season!  I plan to set the table with crisp white linens, and tie the napkins in a preppy stripe ribbon.  For the centerpieces, I plan to use monochromatic pink flowers – a vase of tulips, a vase of gerber daisies, etc. – and white, clean-lined vases.  I may even wrap the vases with the stripe ribbon, just to tie that look together.

I am still working on my menu – and I can’t give everything away since my mother does occasionally read this!  But, I do think it would be so fun to create a candy bar for dessert!  Can’t you picture it done in green, white and pink candy?!  Utterly charming and totally preppy!

How will you be celebrating Mother’s Day this year?!
