DIY: Finial Placecards

L-O-V-I-N-G this colorful idea from Better Homes and Gardens.  Using wood finials from the hardware store, they updated them with a coat of paint and a cute placecard.  A quick, simple project, you can use these painted finials as placecards, sign holders or even buffet cards.  Brilliant!

Colorful Candy Wreath

I have a fascination with candy wreaths.  Okay….let’s be honest, I have a fascination with all things candy and sweets!  But, there is nothing like a well-done candy wreath to really get me excited!  So you can understand my excitement when I found this darling idea from Country Living.  Made of pastel colored jordan almonds, this wreath is the perfect way to welcome Spring, and would make a sweet addition to any Easter celebration.

See the full tutorial here on Country Living.

P.S. Think past Easter, and consider using this concept to create color-coordinated decorations for any type of party.  You can purchase jordan almonds in bulk by color at our favorite online candy resource, Candy Warehouse.  Can’t you just picture a series of monochromatic wreaths hanging in a row as  a back drop to a dessert table!?

Happy Birthday! News! Discounts!

It’s a day of celebration here at The Party Dress and WH Hostess!  We are celebrating TPD’s 2nd birthday and WH Hostess’s 1st birthday!  It’s been an amazing year and we have so much to be thankful for.  So, to celebrate…..we are doing a little reflecting, followed by a little celebrating with some BIG news and are finishing it up with a discount code good for TODAY ONLY!

The Party Dress was started in 2009 as a creative outlet for me – a hobby, a place to share my musings about entertaining and throwing parties.  Never in a million years would I have thought that {fast-forward two years} THIS MANY people would want to read what I write everyday.  Nor did I ever imagine that it would inspire a whole new career for me.

WH Hostess was inspired by our daily readers and has grown rapidly in it’s first year of life.  I literally can say that I have the BEST job in the world.  I spend my days creating party ideas, designing and crafting party invitations and accessories for my amazing customers.  In February alone, WH Hostess was a part of over 300 birthday parties, baby and bridal showers all over the US (and a few other countries, as well).  It brings me huge joy to think of all of the happy occasions that we get to be a part of.

So, that being said…..on to the news:

The Party Dress is expanding into a quarterly e-glossy magazine!  Yup, ya heard me….a MAGAZINE!  Chock full of stunning, amazing parties never seen before, DIY entertaining ideas and Easter celebrations – TPD Magazine is going to blow you away!  We have a ridiculously talented group of contributors lined up for this premiere issue and it’s taken all I have not to share this news with you sooner.  A long time in the making, we are so excited to take this next step!  The magazine will launch in just three short weeks on Monday, March 21st.  Are you a subscriber to our newsletter?  If so, you will receive an early preview….so make sure to sign up!

We are so excited and hope you will be too!  And the business side of me also wants to mention that we have just a couple advertising spots left, so if you are interested in being a part of this issue, please e-mail hostess@thepartydress.net.

On to the discounts!  To celebrate the amazing year we have had, we are offering all of YOU a 10% discount on all orders placed on whhostess.com TODAY ONLY!  Enjoy….and I thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for letting me do what I love to do!

Martha Stewart’s Dreamers into Doers Conference Recap

For those of you that follow us on facebook and twitter, you know that I traveled to NYC a couple of weeks ago to attend a Martha Stewart Dreamers into Doers conference.  One of 80 women bloggers, entrepreneurs and small-business owners, I was treated to a two day conference at the Martha Stewart Headquarters, a taping of The Martha Stewart Show, and some quality time with my “party girl” friends!  I met women that I had become “friends” with thru the internet, walked away with many new friends, and a felt this amazing sense of community.  80 creative, powerful women in one room – the drive alone was contagious!

The night before the conference began, the dreamers descended upon the city and met up for a Meet & Greet at a nearby lounge.  The picture above was taken right as we all met each other for the first time!  Kim, Andrea & Toni of  The TomKat Studio, Lindi of Love The Day, me, Jill of Modern Cupcake, Nancy of A to Zebra Celebrations, Kim of The Celebration Shoppe, Courtney of Pizzazzerie, Caryl of ROAR Events, Me! , Rebecca of Fresh Chick Design Studio and Andrea of Dolce Drive.

Having this many “party girls” in one city at one time was so much fun, there was no way we could let it pass without having our own dinner party!  I arranged for a lo-o-n-n-g table at one of my favorite NYC restaurants, Pastis and the “party girls” had a lovely evening full of champagne, steak frites, SWAG bags put together by The TomKat Studio girls, and a lot of chatter and anticipation about what the rest of the week would hold for us!

The first day of the conference was full of workshops held by MSLO employees – everything from social media marketing, to how to handle your public relations, to Martha herself talking to us about starting a foundation.  The day included a lovely, plated lunch and many “peeks around the corner” to look into prop rooms, test kitchens, etc.  The offices are just as you would imagine them to be – clean, white, with inspiration peeking out from every corner!

The night ended with a cocktail party with mini makeovers, champagne and hors d’oeuvres. I spent a lot of time with my new friends – Vana of Le Papier Studio, Charynn of Two Sugar Babies, Tanya of Save the Date for Cupcakes, Kim of The Celebration Shoppe, Courtney (and her darling mother, Phronsie) of Pizzazzerie, Rebecca of Fresh Chick Design Studio and The TomKat Studio girls.

The next day we braved a snow storm to get to The Martha Stewart Show.  It was a live taping and SO. MUCH. FUN. to see the production process.  A well-oiled machine, The Martha Stewart Show team was great fun (especially Joey!).  I was fortunate to sit in the front room with Vana of Le Papier Studio, Kim of The Celebration Shoppe, and Nancy of A to Zebra Celebrations.

It was an amazing opportunity to be a part of this conference and I will never forget it!  My favorite part of the whole week was the sense of community.  It didn’t matter who you were, what you did – each and every one of us was there to network, build this community to be better and stronger, and to bring more inspiration to all of you every day.  It was inspiring and I am so lucky to have been a party of it!
