Morgan Spenla of Pepper Design Studio designed our next Holiday Table Challenge entry and you are in store for a real treat! Pepper Design Studio is one of my favorite design blogs – not only for the lovely party features, but also for her home decor ideas, and updates on her real-life home renovation (I have SO related to many of her posts as we have been renovating our first home this year). In her words – “PDB is a little space offering inspiration for the design guru in each of us – a collage of handmade projects, DIY tips and ah-ha! moments shared to inspire.”
I always love Morgan’s take on vintage style, and the table setting she put together for our Holiday Table Challenge fits that style perfectly. Here are a few pictures and a description (in her words) of her table:
My inspiration for this table setting is ‘Vintage Christmas’ and I was especially drawn to the intricate and delicate patterns of antique crocheted doilies. Over the past several months I’ve grown a little collection, and when matched with modern tableware I think the thrift store finds look stunning. Sew several together at the ends to create a beautiful runner, or stack an individual doily on each plate to create a ‘snowflake-esq’ centerpiece. Bits of burlap, raffia, dried roses and milk glass help to round out the antique feel, while crisp white plates, starched linens and cactus in clay pots brings a contemporary vibe to the tablescape.
My favorite DIY project from the table is the newspaper confetti (playing up on that snowflake theme) created from a craft punch. When tied to the base of a wine glass they serve as little accent pieces or even place cards/name tags. The runner underneath each plate was made out of a vintage-y patterned wrapping paper from Ikea. Easy to create and easy to clean up when the table gets a bit messy!
